BOJ (Bolaji Odojukan) is a well-known Nigerian singer, performer, producer, and composer. He is cele- brated for his unique voice and distinct fashion style. He first gained recognition as a member of the pioneering Altè group DRB Lasgidi, alongside Teezee and Fresh L, in 2007.
As a child, BOJ’s musical tastes were influenced by his mother, exposing him to a diverse range of artists, including Lagbaja, Fela, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef, and Bob Marley. His breakout moment came in 2013 when he featured on two hit singles, “Omo Pastor” by Ajebutter 22 and “Feel Alright” by Show Dem Camp featuring Ladipoe. These tracks earned him two nominations at The Headies in 2013.
That same year, he released the BOTM (Bolaji on the Microphone) mixtape, which included the solo single of the same name. The single “BOTM” went on to win Best Alternative Song at The Headies in 2014.
BOJ’s debut album, Magic, released in 2017, featured collaborations with top acts such as Olamide, Simi, Falz, Wande Coal, and others. In 2020, DRB Lasgidi released its debut album, Pioneers, to rave reviews, earning anomination for Best Alternative Album at The Headies. In 2019, BOJ released the West African smash hit “Awolowo,” featuring Kwesi Arthur, Joey B, and Darko Vibes.
In 2022, BOJ dropped his tcritically acclaimed album Gbagada Express, named after the Lagos neighbor- hood where he grew up, and included a diverse lineup of collaborators, including Fireboy DML, BNXN, Victony, Mr Eazi, and more.
BOJ is renowned as a master collaborator due to his ability to seamlessly blend his unique style with a wide array of artists across genres. He collaborated with UK rapper Dave on the hit single “La- zarus”(2021) and has also been a frequent collaborator with Show Dem Camp, lending his vocals to nu- merous tracks on their Palmwine Music projects, further solidifying his reputation as an influential artist.
BOJ has also been known for his collaborative projects with his long-standing friend, Ajebutter 22. They released the thematic EP Make E No Cause Fight in 2018, Make E No Cause Fight 2 with Falz in 2019, and the trilogy was completed in 2023 with the release of Make E No Cause Fight 3.
2024, marked 12 years for BOJ in the music industry. To commemorate this milestone, his latest studio album is named 12 Summers, which pays homage to his journey and evolution as an artist over the past 12 years. 12 Summers features an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Odumodublvck, Victony, Gyakie, Oxlade, Adekunle Gold, and Ajebutter 22. The project solidifies BOJ’s legacy as a key figure in Nigeria’s music scene and highlights his continued relevance and influence.
