Self-proclaimed percussion obsessive, South-London-raised, British-Ghanaian
Producer and DJ Hagan has long been recognised in the underground electronic
scene as one of the most exciting fusionists. Renowned for exploring the intersection
of UK club music and African percussive heritage, Hagan boldly blends elements of
afrohouse, afrotech, 3-step, gqom highlife, afrobeat, uk funky, jazz, uk garage,
funk carioca and more.
His musical journey began at an early age, gaining an introduction to Ghanaian music; the sounds of Ebo Taylor, Gyedu Ambolley, Pat Thomas, Kojo Antwi. A passion for rhythm was instilled in him when he gravitated towards percussion, playing the Drums, Congas, and Djembes at church for some time. Having released his DJ Mag nominated debut album ‘Textures ’ on Python Syndicate in 2022, Hagan has showcased his carefully honed production skills and the broad sound palette he has acquired at his disposal. Across 11 tracks, Hagan celebrates and explores the cultures and the deep connections across South Africa , Nigeria ,Brazil, Ghana and the UK that have informed his distinctive, percussive rich sound. His work has steered him to further explore music through visuals, collaborating with Crudo Volta to produce ‘ Textures – The Film ’ which accompanied the album and previously, ‘ Yenkyi Taxi ’. With his percussive backbone and his detailed attention to sound selection, Hagan’s latest Soulection project ‘ Good Food ’, saw him delve deeper into the theme of collaboration and fusing live instrumentation with electronic sounds. Churning out one of the best Soulection Radio episodes in 2023, Hagan is affirming himself as one of the favourites in the scene, showing his versatility producing mixes for the likes of Mixmag , DJ Mag and Crack to name a few. His also gained support from BBC Radio 1,BBC 6 Music ,NTS, Rinse FM, Resident Advisor ,Notion,Bandcamp and more.
Hagan’s sound is undoubtedly becoming an instant crowd mover; completing a successful debut at Amsterdam’s Open Air Festival in 2024, his debut Australian tour at the end of 2023, closing out Worldwide Festival with Jamz Supernova in 2023, his debut at ADE for Henry X’s ‘Blends’, his closing set at We Out Here in 2022 and his multiple Jazz Café DJ appearances. Hagan has truly honed his craft and has now launched two successful curated club event ‘Hagan & Friends’ selling out Jazz Café (2023) and Village Underground (2024),and lastly his live show ‘Hagan Live ‘at XOYO, further diversifying his output and leading the way for the dance floor.
