The forward-thinking artist, producer and DJ blurs musical lines with a catalogue steeped in hip-hop, grime, jazz, pop and more. He represents the melting pot that is his London home, connecting the dots and bridging the gaps between genres.
The product of a musical family, JD made his first outings as a beatmaker in his mid teens and had his debut label release with his project, Maneki Neko, in 2014. Since then, his following projects (io, Calibrate and Tree) and a slew of edits and remixes have proven his output to be unpredictable. Through releases on Terrorhythm, Rinse, Soulection and most recently his own BABY GRAVY label imprint, his musical tapestry has evolved and expanded in real time.
For his latest endeavour, he is releasing a trilogy of EPs via his label BABY GRAVY. Informed by the evolution of his sound as an artist, the releases showcase the unique area he inhabits in the club landscape and have so far earned the support of key tastemakers such as Benji B and Gilles Peterson. Further to his releases, he’s been a staple on Rinse FM for approaching 10 years. JD’s long-running ‘EDITS’ series, featuring off-the-cuff reboots of carnival anthems, OG grime classics and club favourites, have also been heavily backed by the likes of Joy Orbison, Jyoty, Bicep, Ikonika and Hudson Mohawke.
JD has a rich history of DJing renowned clubs, events and festivals with his eclectic blend of hip-hop, house, grime and everything electronic in between – highlighted by appearances such as his celebrated live-streamed set from Boiler Room Festival. His passion for nightlife recently led him to launch his BABY GRAVY club night, which he kicked off in April 2024 with a sold-out show at The Carpet Shop joined by friends Jyoty and Bok Bok.
As a producer, JD has achieved double platinum status and amassed over 750 million global streams combined. His CV encompasses cuts with the likes of Mahalia, Sudan Archives, Mabel, Kelela, jerry (aka Hodgy Beats), Ms Banks, Celeste, Yazmin Lacey, Jeshi, Sinéad Harnett, Biig Piig and Kojey Radical to name a few. He has tasted both commercial and critical success scoring a top 10 on the UK Singles Chart with Mabel’s smash hit ‘Finders Keepers’.
