Louis VI has worked with top calibre musicians, across multiple genres, including; Mick Jenkins, Nightmares On Wax, Lex Amor, Durand Bernarr, Oscar Jerome, Denai Moore, Tom Misch, Joe Armon Jones, Blue Lab Beats, Fhin, Subculture, Nick Mason, Frank Ocean, Jelani Blackman, Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Bluestaeb, Nightmares On Wax, Blue Lab Beats, Poppy Ajudha, OthaSoul & more…
Having just released a brand new EP, ECOCIDE, 2023 is tipped to be not only a music filled year for Louis but shifting up a gear with his film work and Climate Action too. While building up to releasing his second studio album EARTHLING as the debut on newly minted label HiyaSelf Recordings, founded by Nightmares on Wax.
Lead single, Yonn Manman Laté, features fellow Dominican Moses Boyd. Moses rejoins Louis VI on a new musical path; Afrobeat melding into Afro-Caribbean soul. Marking a fresh direction for the self-produced artist.
The album is a cross genre affair – blending hip hop, jazz, electronic, afrobeat, R&B and soul. Louis creates a melting pot of future-leaning sounds that follows his critically acclaimed debut, SUGAR LIKE SALT, which was praised by tastemakers; Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Frank Ocean, NTS, AFROPUNK and more. Plus multiple syncs on culturally significant shows such as; ‘I MAY DESTROY YOU’, INDUSTRY ‘HBO’, Footlocker & Premier League #NoRoomForRacism. He also used his voice to speak out as a POC Environmental Justice activist, against the colonial legacy of climate change. This is felt in the lyrics too, making this a rare album of deepness without being preachy.
The self produced upcoming album, EARTHLING, is three and a half years in the making (release March 2023). It is an outrospective, psychedelic, sometimes hilarious, emotional, but deeply funky journey. Following a young mixed-race man on his quest on what it means to be human & even more our relationship with Nature. With Louis dealing us vocal lines with more singing from him than ever; his thick vocal harmonies add another dimension to an already multidimensional body of music.
