About
London born & raised but globally-collaborating & trotting psychedelic alternative Hip Hop/Jazz Rapper & Producer, Louis VI is becoming known for being a nature geek & being out spoken on Climate Injustice as much as his uniquely diverse & exciting music which reflects & reinvents all of experimental intricacies of Jazz & Hip Hop.
The mixed race musician (Dominica, France, UK), following his debut critically acclaimed album ‘SUGAR LIKE SALT’ which has gain over 7 Million streams (with support from Jamz Supernova, Gilles Peterson, Complex, Nightmares On Wax, Dazed, BBC, Line of Best Fit & more…) Louis did a string of sold out headline shows, joined Chicago rapper SABA on tour, Boiler Room Set, a Sustainable live session from Solar Powered Premises Studios with his band (David Mrakpor, Alex Cosmo Blake, Manny Bass & Chiminyo) & BBC Live at Maida Vale with good friend & frequent collaborator Moses Boyd.
As someone that does it all as a producer, rapper, vocalist & instrumentalist + his background in Jazz, (having grown up working with almost all of London’s top new Jazz scene names) that rhythmically influences his Hip Hop production; he’s been able to craft his own unique sound. A warm, London gritty but Jazzy soulful bed for his highly poetic, thought-provoking, honest commentary on life as a person of colour & the state of the world. Drawing on nature & his Caribbean ancestry as influence for his upcoming album, he has amassed a loyal & rapidly growing fan base on the underground network of jazz & hip hop throughout the world of people that are tired of the monochromatic mainstream.
As well as being an artist Louis VI is an award winning film composer, Zoologist climate activist & award winning environmental documentary maker & presenter but first and foremost, is self-described as the “biggest nature geek in London”. After the small Caribbean island of Dominica, where Louis’ father’s side draws ancestry, was hit by Hurricane Maria in 2017, Louis found himself profoundly moved by the injustice of the fact that the places that have contributed the least to climate change, are already feeling it most. With a focus on empowering people of colour, in climate activism, nature and creating representation for POC within environmentalist spaces, Louis through his films and his music has been working tirelessly to promote the understand that as the diaspora here in the West, “where we live, is destroying where we’re from”. Louis takes pride in helping amplify the voices of young people of colour in the UK and the World alongside Indigenous voices in the Climate Conversation. He has also directed over 10 of his own music videos with 345K views including an award winning Climate Change film & composes for film & adverts.
He’s worked with top calibre musicians across the genres including Mick Jenkins, Nightmares On Wax, Lex Amor, Durand Bernarr, Oscar Jerome, Denai Moore, Tom Misch, Joe Armon Jones, Blue Lab Beats, Fhin, Subculture, Nick Mason, Frank Ocean, Jelani Blackman, Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Bluestaeb, Nightmares On Wax, Blue Lab Beats, Poppy Ajudha, OthaSoul & more…
