During live shows, she strums that autoharp, clutches it, hugs it and thumps it, drawing out notes that she sings, coos, and whispers over. Her live band add layers, textures, a cinematic sweep, a Lynch-ian sheen, to her songs. But then you’ll notice her intensity, her sincerity, how composed she is, how she draws you in with her gothic vocals, her personalised lyrics and her mesmerising stories. Sometimes, she’ll sing down a broken telephone, delivering lines about loss and love and devastation and desire, channelling ghosts from the past.
