Growing up on the sounds of African drumming and reggae music in the seaside town of Brighton (UK), IYAMAH began to use the piano as a way of diary-like expression developing her songwriting at age twelve, inspired by the likes of Alicia Keys, Jill Scott and India Arie.
IYAMAH moved to North London aged nineteen to study at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, winning a scholarship for the best vocals award.
She went onto to release her debut EP ‘Truth EP.1’ which instantly gained attraction around the world, leading her to be handpicked to tour with the likes of Mahalia and Masego.
She has since then performed at multiple festivals including Cross The Tracks, Lost Village, and R&L, had huge support from BBC introducing and recorded live sessions for Metropolis Songs, Red-bull and Majestic Casual, and sold-out multiple headline shows in London including The Jazz Café,
O’MEARA and Lafayette. She has accumulated over 35 million streams and received continuous support from BBC 1Xtra, Elton John and The Joe Budden Podcast.
IYAMAH is also known for writing top lines on DnB tracks, collaborating with the likes of My Nu Leng, DJ Zinc, Polo & Bryson and DJ Marky, and has toured the summer festivals including Glastonbury, Boomtown and SW4. Receiving huge amounts of support from radio including Clara Amfo’s Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1.
Following her own path as a solo artist, IYAMAH is focused on developing a distinct soulful R&B sound which she describes as ‘Rootsy Soul’; a combination of all of her favourite genres. She continues to stay connected to her musical upbringings, her story telling, and a lyrical focus on identity, self-worth, and female empowerment.
