Memorial are Jack Watts and Oliver Spalding, a Brighton-based alt-folk duo who have been friends for over a decade. Known for their delicate, harmony-rich sound and evocative storytelling akin to Sufjan Stevens, Adrianne Lenker and Elliott Smith, they write songs that dig into the intricacies of inner monologue, finding meaning through honesty rather than resolution. Their two previous albums earned support from BBC Introducing, 6Music and Radio X, and a live reputation alongside Bright Eyes, Anaïs Mitchell, Christian Lee Hutson, The Barr Brothers and The Staves. Their new album Jera is due for release in August 2026 via Ólafur Arnalds’ OPIA Community, recorded at Arnalds’ studio in Reykjavík, the album features contributions from Ólafur Arnalds, Niamh Regan, Lisa Hannigan and Dustin O’Halloran, further cementing Memorial’s place within a creative community built around collaboration, trust and artistic freedom.
