MJ Cole
MJ Cole is a British composer, producer, and live performer whose work continues to influence UK music from the soulful depths of garage to expansive contemporary and classical-inflected projects. Known for a rare blend of musicality, innovation, and
emotional intelligence, his output exists in constant motion, refusing to be fixed to any single era or genre.
Emerging from the late-90s UK underground, MJ Cole was a central architect in the rise of 2-step UK Garage – a sound that would go on to influence grime and dubstep as well as bands like The xx. His breakthrough track “Sincere” became one of the first garage songs to break into the UK Top 40, helping propel the genre into the mainstream. Rather than defining a peak, it marked the beginning of a career built on evolution. In 2025 MJ Cole marked 25 years of Sincere not with nostalgia but reinvention and
delivered a run of landmark performances including Glastonbury’s Glade Stage, a
Friday-night headline slot at We Out Here Festival, and a sold-out show at London’s
KOKO. Joined on stage by artists such as Elisabeth Troy, AJ Tracey, Eliza Rose,
Katy B, Becky Hill and Hak Baker, he reworked his catalogue through a
contemporary lens, affirming its relevance to new generations and modern dancefloors
alike.
